Welcome to Copper Canyon's San Isidro Lodge
in the historical town of Urique, Mexico.
(Both English & Spanish are spoken here.)

Safari Express

Nearly 300 miles below the U.S. border lie some of the most rugged and remote areas of northwestern Mexico—the region known as Copper Canyon. Here you will be able to step backwards in time to visit a culture whose ancient customs are still practiced in their everyday lives today.

Your hosts, the Munos Family, have lived in the area all their lives and have cultural and family ties to the local Tarahumara Indians.

They are dedicated to the conservation of the canyon and the preservation of the way of life (culture) of the local Tarahumara.

Our family will welcome you to our warm and friendly lodge at San Isidro. This will be your homebase while you visit the Copper Canyon area.

The town of Urique holds many surprises for you. Our beautiful Cathedral is a monument that has withstood the test of time. And to pass the warm afternoon away, our people will be happy to share the ancient stories and tales of the Tarahumara people with you.

You can arrange a train ride, then a mule ride through our beautiful and picturesque countryside on your way to visit the famous Copper Canyon. Rivers that snake for hundreds of miles have carved out our glorious canyon. Our climate keeps it lush and rich with vegetation that has fed our people for many generations.

Perhaps the best way to get to know our wonderful history is to visit with a local Tarahumara family. Learn the ancient ways of life that have stayed intact throughout their long history. Listen to their magical stories, and walk their lands.

The Tarahumara are famous the world over for our basket-making techniques. A visit with us will send you home with a hand-made hat or a beautifully artistic basket for your home.

the Birds

Birding is a popular past time all over the world. Bird-lovers come to Copper Canyon to catch a glimpse of our huge variety of colorful and exotic birds.
